Halloween as ‘Holly Golightly’

Every year I wait till the last minute to think of a costume for Halloween and never come up with anything cool. So, for this year, I thought of putting together a costume from my own closet. I knew who I was going to be this year… the moment I looked into my closet – ‘Holly Golightly’ from Breakfast at Tiffany’s!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a romantic comedy featuring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard, which is widely considered a classic today. Perhaps the most recognizable image from the movie is one of Audrey Hepburn dressed in a black sheath and pearls, hair up in a chignon, eating her danish in front of the display window at Tiffany’s. This dress was designed by Ms Hepburn’s friend, Hubert de Givenchy, and is often cited as the most iconic dress of the twentieth century. Following this movie, the little black dress or the LBD became a wardrobe staple for women world over and it continues to be as popular.

Creating this look is simple. All you need is a black sleeveless dress, satin opera gloves, a statement pearl necklace, a tiara and black pumps. I couldn’t get my hands on the original Oliver Goldsmith ‘Manhattan’ sunglasses, but any black sunglasses will do. Put your hair up in a chignon, wear your tiara and voila! Hello Holly!

What is your Halloween costume this year? I would love to hear all about it…please share!
